Abstract:
Objective
To detect and analyze the expression of interleukin-6 in periodontal tissue, atherosclerotic plaque and serum of rats chronic periodontitis and atherosclerosis compound model.
Methods
60 adult male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group(group A),periodontitis group (group B), atherosclerosis group (group C) and compound group (group D)with 15 animals each. Every group accepts the corresponding measures to establish the animal model. Pathological changes in periodontal tissue of experimental teeth and arterial vessels were observed. The expression of IL-6 in periodontal tissue and atherosclerotic plaque was tested by Semi-quantitative immunohistochemistry. ELISA was employed to detect the level of IL-6 in serum.
Results
Histopathology Observation of periodontal tissue revealed: Obvious inflammation of periodontal tissue were observed in group B,D. Attachment loss in group B and D were higher than that of A and C groups (P<0.05). Histopathology Observation of arteries revealed: Aorta atherosclerotic plaques formation in group C,D. Expression of IL-6 in periodontal tissue and serum in group B and D were higher than in other groups (P <0.05). Expression of IL-6 in athero-sclerotic plaque in group D was higher than in other groups (P <0.05). Dependability analyze revealed: Expression of IL-6 in periodontal tissue and atherosclerotic plaque in group D were positive correlation.
Conclusion
The development of atherosclerosis and chronic periodontitis may concern with elevated levels of IL-6.
